In 2021 I was burnt out and unfulfilled in my career as an accountant. I was desperate to make an impact in people's lives and find more meaning in what I did every day. That need for purpose is what led me to coaching.
But to understand why I coach the way I do, you need to know where I started as a runner.
That photo below is me after finishing the Great Birmingham Half Marathon in 2016. Medal on. Absolutely convinced I had found my limit. (Yes...I used to have hair.)
No elite background. No obvious predisposition for this. Just someone who had a go and found it pretty tough out there.
What followed was road marathons, 50km ultras, a first 100km, mountain races in Snowdonia, multi-stage events, and eventually TDS during UTMB week.
None of it happened overnight. All of it was built.

I know what it feels like to take that leap and go after the big, scary goals. The uncertainty. The self-doubt. Not knowing how to train or which direction to go in.

That experience is why I find coaching so fulfilling. I get to be part of your journey, the same one I have been on myself. The one where you realise you were always capable of more, and that if you commit to the process and work hard, you can set goals far beyond what you ever thought possible.
My running career has been full of unexpected twists and turns, starting with road marathons and now focusing on trail ultra-marathons. And the longer I do this, the more I believe in one thing above everything else: you have never truly met your potential. That is how I view my own running now, and it is the philosophy at the heart of everything I do as a coach.
Everyone deserves to have dreams. That race you never thought you'd finish. That PB you thought was behind you. That distance you thought was impossible. Whatever yours is, it matters, to you and to me.
There is a lot of noise when it comes to knowing how to train. The influencers who make it look effortless. The generic plans that claim to be bespoke. The PDF your dad forwarded from the Sunday Times.
It is hard to sift through, and none of it stops to focus on the most important variable, you.
You are not your mate who just winged it. You are not the person online with six hours a day to train, or the professional athlete whose entire environment has been built for performance. You are unique, with pressures and commitments that are yours and only yours.
You deserve to be the priority in your journey.
What you will get from me is a coach who cares, listens, understands that life is demanding, and will adapt to you, supporting you with expert coaching and championing you every step of the way.
